Season 10

IT'S OUR 10TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON!!!
It's hard to believe that we have been doing this series for 10 years now. We have so many amazing stories from the last decade and we continue to add more this year. Please enjoy Season 10 of This 5th Grade Life!
Episode 1: My Brother Got Stuck in an Elevator
Simone kicks off our 10th Anniversary by telling about the time her brother and his whole ski team got stuck in an elevator. You get to find out what Canadian firefighters look like! Take a listen!
We take certain medical advances for granted these days, like treatments for asthma. But these things were not always easy, especially in other countries. Amelya tells us the story of her mom and how she grew up in a Turkish hospital, all because she couldn't breathe.
Episode 3: The Tail of the Dragon
Paul's older brother once went exploring with some friends and they found a cave. This is the story.
Tornados are not all that rare in Minnesota, though they are quite rare in the Twin Cities. But in 1981, there was a large tornado that went from Lake Harriet in Minneapolis all the way to Har Mar Mall in Roseville (Mr. Buetow remembers hiding in his grandparents basement for this).
Adrian tells the story of how his grandfather got stuck in the storm as he was driving home and the scary story that he lived to tell.
Kieran's dad wasn't always the camper that he is now. Kieran tells us of the adventure had the first time he went camping. Spoiler: In this story, there might be a (wait for it)... BEAR!!
When Roman's grandpa was a boy, his dad was involved in an illegal betting operation. Roman tells how this worked out for his great-grandfather.
Have you ever had a bat in your house (YUCK!)? Mr. Buetow has and so has Eleanor's uncle. Eleanor tells his story.
Episode 9: How my Brother Broke his Ankle
Camila tells us the story of the time her brother was playing sports and broke his ankle.
Episode 10: He's the Bad Guy... Duh
Lucy's grandmother was a judge for many years. This is a story about how one of her cases took a much more personal and scary turn. Lucy tells us the amazing story.
Episode 11: The Halloween Blizzard of 1991
For those of us of a certain age, the Halloween Blizzard of '91 was a momentous event. We all still remember where we were and what we were doing. August tells us his mom's version of this blizzard.
It's amazing to think about all the little moments in the past where a small decision by one of our ancestors has massive repercussions for future generations. Charlie tells us how one small decision not to do something is exactly such a story.
Sully's grandma had the trip of a lifetime. She went to Mexico and saw a whole bunch of amazing things. Sully tells us the story.
Maddie tells the story of how a snow storm and some lost keys almost spelled disaster.
Episode 15: How my Dad Proposed with a Cow
When Ellie's dad decided to propose to her mom, he decided to use a Simpson's reference, a farm, and a calf. When things did not go exactly as planned, hilarity ensued. Ellie tells us the story.
In our second bovine inspired story of the season, Isabel tells us of a different kind of cow. This one is the main character in a play, directed by Isabel's dad and performed by prison inmates. Isabel tells us all about it.
Episode 17: Theater is REALLY Cool
Another theater themed story, this time about Eamon's grandmother. In the 1970's she was a performer on a USO tour of Vietnam. She performed for the soldiers at different places around South East Asia and had an amazing experience. Eamon tells us the story.
Episode 18: Life in a New World
Continuing the trend of building on the previous episode (seriously, we didn't plan it this way, it just happened), Jim tells us about another side of the Vietnam War. This time from the point of view of the Hmong people. Jim's dad had to flee Laos after the war and spent time in a refugee camp in Thailand. Life there was tough, and once in the United States, things were still hard. But it all turns out well in the end. Jim tells us the story.
