The Pre-Kindergarten Program provides a solid learning environment for children the year before kindergarten to prepare them for school success. The SPPS Pre-Kindergarten Program is rooted in a deep committment to standards-based education to provide our learners with a strong academic foundation.

Each class has 20 children with a full time teacher, Sara Swift, and a teaching assistant, Kathy Sawyer.

A Day in Pre-Kindergarten   

Ease Into the Day - The teachers create a warm & welcoming environment by checking in with the children as they enter the classroom. After a trip to the coat room to hang up gear the children sign-in on the white board and join their friends

We are signing up for Active Learning!

Morning/Afternoon Meeting - The class comes together in a circle and the meeting begins with a greeting and a reading of the daily message. We also cover basic skills and end our meeting with a Read Aloud. 
Small Group Activities - Teachers instruct targeted skills after which time the children have an opportunity to practice the skills

Active Learning - Children have time to explore the different learning centers of the classroom.When we are finished with Active Learning, we practice our reading during Independent Reading, either in our classroom or in our school library, where we check out books twice a week!
Regroup to Revisit - The class comes together again to reflect on the day's learning and to make connections to and preparing for the next day. After we regroup, we always fit
